Name ; age ; identification ; location (ASL)?
Hola hola! My name is ELAURA, I’m 25 years old. I identify as she/her/mamacita living in Naarm, Melbourne.
Sun, Earth or Moon?
Moon- la luna! Because she directs waves & is the one unwavering light in the night. She reminds me that I am a spec in the universe, while at the same time reminding me that I am powerful & can make great change embodying my own unique light, just as she does.
Why music? What drew you to it?
It all started when I was 10 years old and decided to perform a Missy Higgins song called ‘Scar’ & spoke a spanish prayer in front of my class for show and tell. Growing up embodying my latin american heritage in Australian culture, I grew up experiencing music as a way to celebrate & dance together with my family. It was used as a tool to unite.
All I knew was that it felt good to share moments with people through music, and I had some awareness that I was different because of my background, my features and my second language (spanish)… now reflecting back at what I chose to share with the class, my 10 year old self didn't want to just feel different, but instead special BECAUSE of my differences. When people reacted with amazement at my performance… It gave me the courage to keep singing, more pride to speak in Spanish & eventually I started writing my own songs at around 12 years old.
I think what draws me to music the most is the way it brings people with so many different stories together in the same room relating to the same song in their own ways. I aim to create inclusive spaces that celebrate life’s downfalls & blessings through honest relatable stories. To also remind people that enthic womxn can be authoritative & run their own music business and take up positions of great influence… it’s 2022 baby & we need our BIPOC sisters in the FRONT.

Favourite track created to date and why?
I’ve released a few tracks but my favourite that would have to be ‘Shadow Talk’. Working with Sunday (Josh Yardy) has been the best thing to happen to the creative process that is my music. Collaborating with someone that uses knowledge and experience in production to support my spiritual & intuitive approach to art, without judgment… is a dream come true. Because we put art first, we are able to create some truly epic, honest & unique music.
Shadow Talk is for anyone doubting their ability to step into their own power. Being the leader of your life means co-existing with your shadows & ego, and not letting that part of you run your life. It reflects my belief that people can change into better versions of themselves if we learn to stop repressing our fears & lean on our community. It’s a reminder to myself that I am in charge of where I lead my life, what’s important is that I stay aware of the aspect of myself that’s leading. “I see my ego rolling out the carpet, but it’s me the sequel.”
What I admire in the creation and release process of songs lately is the way that the song facilitates my own healing when I create it, and then the release process can live on forever facilitating healing for those that open their hearts to receive it. Viewing songwriting in this way makes me value the creation just as much as the release, the journey as much as the destination- in every sense.

If you could manifest anything to exist in the Outer South East, what would it be?
Maybe somewhere for our younger ethnic & BIPOC community to creatively collaborate and feel understood and celebrated in their creative expression. I would have loved to see other creatives of latin heritage on stages when I was getting into music. I would also love to see spaces where we break down the stigma of music being a hobby & start talking about the ways we can sustain a creative lifestyle while also maintaining financial stability
Your local businesses you’d like to shout out?
Okay okay… firstly, my gorgeous Tia (we call family friends aunties ‘tias’ and uncles ‘tios’ in spanish) Jessi runs an INCREDIBLE spanish paella catering business called Lady Paella, giving people the gift of cooking and culture all over Victoria- book her in to cater for you now and call me later to say gracias!
Go and check out La Bohemia cafe in Noble Park & Marcianos cakes in Clayton if you’re ready for the best traditional chilean food & pastries EVER.
I love to support my local stores when I go back to my hometown- at the end of the Puffing Billy line in Gembrook is a beautiful cafe called ‘Spencer’s Store’.
Also love the ‘The General Store’ in Emerald is owned by a chef and a graphic designer which absolutely translates to how equally beautiful the store presents, as the food tastes. Great if you’re after a vegan/vego friendly feed in the hills of the Dandenong ranges!
This might be a good time to mention that I also run my own music coaching business, Elaurability for clients of all abilities, mainly working with kids in the disability sector but more recently I am broadening my clientele to adults too, if I’m the best fit to support your music endeavors.
