Name ; age ; identification ; location (ASL)?

My name is Shân Primrose and I am a Burmese-Australian female visual artist and designer based in Melbourne.

Sun, Earth or Moon?

I reckon I'm definitely Earth. I was lucky to grow up surrounded by nature and wildlife on the Mornington Peninsula, and travelling the world and experiencing different cultures has been a huge part of my practice. Going to the Amazon rainforest in 2019 was a huge realization that there is so much out there - and I want to see it all.

Why art? What drew you to it?

I was 16, and in year 11 at high school when I realised there was nothing else I wanted to do other than to make art for the rest of my life. I guess I just didn't like any other subjects at school. My art teachers were the first teachers to see potential in me and treat me like I belonged.

Favourite piece / artwork / sculpture created or worked on to date? Why?

Last year I had my debut solo show called 'Dog's Breakfast' where I explored both my Burmese and Australian heritage through a 9 part body of work. It was the first time in my life I had sat down and researched themes of religion, sport, self expression and identity on both sides. It was an extremely special moment in my life and I learned so much about myself and my art through the experience.

If you could manifest anything to exist in the Outer South East, what would it be?

For creatives living there to be given the same opportunities as everyone else.

Your local businesses you’d like to shout out?

I love the sense of community and belonging in the Outer South East. I grew up on the Mornington Peninsula and felt very out of place, as it's a predominantly white and rich area.
